Virtual Tours have become one of the options for tour guides to continue their craft and make some money during the pandemic. Initially, I was not a keen fan of doing a virtual tour. However, as I teach classes regularly via zoom, I soon realised that a virtual tour is nothing more than a lecture online, and so my worry that it would not be attended quickly vanished. I have been giving online lect...

January has been dubbed “Veganuary” in recent years, with a campaign to encourage people to “go vegan”. I have always been in the camp of “that’s weird”, and didn’t really feel the need to try and change my eating habits just because it’s a new month. I also never subscribed to the “Dry January” campaign either, but that is because ...

My husband and I were married in the month of December, and for the last six years, we have celebrated our anniversary by going to a Christmas Market in Europe. Christmas Markets are these magical places where you can eat, drink and be merry! Being from Texas, we didn’t really know anything about Christmas Markets. We had always been fans of the Texas Renaissance Festival or Crawfish Festiva...

Since we are in Lockdown, and since March when the pandemic hit and the world stopped travelling, I have not been able to give tours. Lockdown has given me time on my hands, which I have tried to fill in many ways. In the beginning, I used the time to clean the house. That lead to decluttering the house. I have also been cooking, trying new foods, and of course doing lots of research that I can us...

My bike tires are skinny, so rain makes me slip everywhere. However, my friend and fellow tour guide Rob provided me with the perfect motivatio...

I remember my first Thanksgiving in London. My husband (then fiancé) was living here and I had just been placed on a furlough scheme from the airline where I was a flight attendant. I had earned a promotion in January of 2001, but due to the 9/11 attacks, Continental Airlines (like others) had to place a large number of staff on indefinite leave. I had taken the opportunity to join an MBA p...

Having thoroughly enjoyed my day out at Windsor Castle, I decided that I would venture out again the following week. Little did I know that it would be the last time I could do this before London entered Lockdown 2.0. So in writing this blog post, I am so happy that I did it because I am not sure when my next outing can occur. I still have not decided to take the tube, so once again it was t...

With the pandemic swinging around like a pendulum on a clock, I have been going through waves of emotion. From worry and fear, to frustration and fed-up-ness, I hover between the idea of staying home to stay safe and going out to just live my life. When Windsor Castle announced they would have Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress on display, I felt like this was a calling for me to venture out ...
