We’re having a heatwave again in London. I write about the weather here because perhaps someone will read this around the time that they are planning to travel and get a feel for what to pack. Maybe you are reading this and wishing you where here, but cannot be. Maybe you are here and reading this, and nodding profusely in agreement. It doesn’t matter, I’m just happy someone is r...

London is finally getting some warm weather. We have had a rather cold and damp year so far, so the warm weather of Spring is very welcomed. Last weekend was the Bank Holiday (a three day weekend) where we had the Monday off. In America, it was Memorial Day, but here it doesn’t have the same significance. That’s alright, I still appreciated the soldiers!  On the Sunday and Monday...

On Saturday, I went to the Sample Sale located at the O2 Arena. It is a quarterly market that specialises in small businesses and offers a nice combination of food, clothing and other items for sale. Before browsing through the market, I decided to walk through the O2 itself. This isn’t an area where many London tourist venture, so the crowds are mainly locals. Built for the millennium cele...

As the pubs begin to allow people back to the inside of their premieses, I ponder how I have not been in one for a while. The last time I was there was in December, just before they decided that Lockdown 3 (Tier 4) would be necessary again. Tier 4 meant they shut all non-essential stores, and you are only allowed outside for exercise, food shopping or medical appoi...

Prince Philip died and his funeral was this past weekend. The country is still in mourning and the television is awash with his memorial story. I must admit, my initial reaction was one of relief for the family. While it is agony to lose someone, there must be some kind of peace in knowing that there is no more pain.  I took a trip into Central London to take photos of the flags at half mast...

During most of the winter, the UK weather report often includes snow for most of England and Scotland, except London. With the River Thames flowing and keeping us nice and “warm”, we don’t get as much snow as the rest of the country. Before COVID, my January and February bus tours to Oxford usually included a nice dusting of white snow on the countryside that was a delight to see...

Today is a big day for the UK! While the rest of the world has coped with the global pandemic by going to Starbucks daily, going thrifting and making videos about it, going to school, and hanging out with friends and family —- the UK has been in lockdown since December. That meant that we were not supposed to get out unless it was for groceries, a medical appointment, an essential worker, or...
